When I got into MIT back in December, I must admit that while I was very, very, very excited, I had a weird breakdown for five minutes when I realized I was going to college with a couple hundred geeks. Luckily, MIT wanted to pay for my trip to CPW, so I went there with this what the heck, theyre paying for it so I might as well go attitude. Well . . . MIT proved me wrong big time. (Which I loved, of course.) The people there are seriously the nicest people Ive ever met. I got lost a few times (ok, a LOT of times), and instead of whipping out my map, I took that as a chance to ask someone and meet people. I dont think I met a single stuck-up person there, so thats a pretty good sign Ill fit in. :) I also loved how every time I met a new person it went sort of like this: Me: Hi, Im Milena. Other person: My name is ____. I actually know who you are, Ive seen you on Facebook. Me: Oh. Well nice to meet you!! Oh, where would we be if it werent for Facebook *sigh* Some people saw my pictures on Facebook, and a lot of them are of my hosts dorm, Simmons Hall. Well, how could you not love Simmons?! They have a meditation room full of balls, which I loved being in. I spent a lot of time in my dorm (wow, that sounds nice) with my fellow Puertorrican people on floor 7C. My host was the APRs president, so I got to meet a lot of the Puertorrican students, and I even had dinner with them. Talking about food. The amount of free food on campus was INSANE! There were BBQ parties going on everywhere, even though it was pretty cold outside. Although I didnt make the most of the free food (I was having so much fun I forgot I was hungry), I did go to a few frats to have a bite (TDC having the best burgers I had during the weekend). And I also got to try those Annas burritos Id heard so much about, and LOVED them. A list of things Id never done before and tried them over the weekend (pictures included!): 1. Having soda with dry ice. 2. Swallowing two live goldfish swimming in root beer. (Before you go ahead and think Im gross/insane/your new best friend, a friend who shall remain anonymous had 26. Think about HIM.) 3. Going to a frat party (I went to DTDs Goldfish party, Nu Deltas Climax party and Phi Delts party on Saturday night). They were all awesome!! Your feet will thank you. This is supposed to say halfway to hell with an arrow pointing to MIT, but Id have to get on the road to take a better picture, and Id rather be alive. 5. Taking an Organic Chemistry (5.12) class in room 10-250. The professor was very funny and wanted people to ask more dumb questions. I had a few, but Ill leave them for when I actually have to understand everything she says. The pictures look kinda blurry because I didnt want to use the cameras flash and draw attention to myself. By the way, those boards are amazing. The professor pressed a button and they moved up and down so she could write on them. 6. Watching hundreds of bouncy balls drop at Senior House. I saved a few :-) You cant see the balls really well because they were small, but I did my best. 7. Reading a fake issue of the Tech. Caltech decided to prank MIT by printing these real-looking Tech issues, which I thought were hilarious, but the hack could have been a lot better if they had hidden all the real Tech issues and replaced them with their fake issue. Which goes to prove, Caltech students are not as smart as they think they are. Bwahaha. That Facebook leaves student friendless headline worried me. That could be me in a year! This was very funny, especially the one about birth control. I didnt get to sleep much (I only slept about 10 hours during CPW), but Im glad I stayed up as long as I could. I did loads of cool things, met lots of cool people and had a great time. CPW was great and they did a great job of convincing me to give them all of my Dads money in exchange for the best education I can get. The Story of the Good Brahmas Based on my basic knowledge about Indian society, Brahmins hold the highest status in Indian's caste system. I perceive that the story will be similar to bible stories like, the good shepherd. However, what I encountered in reading the selection is a Brahmas, specifically, a confused Brahmas who Is not happy with his life. The Brahmas who Is a philosopher himself, constantly questions his existence, his essence, and his wit.He had all the luxuries, the wealth, and three beautiful wives but he is not happy with all f those. On the first look, he is much blessed compared to his neighbor who is very poor and imprudent. But his neighbor, the old woman is happy with her life. There goes the story of the old woman, who has nothing. She has no wealth, no knowledge, and no problem. She Just had enough faith In Vishnu and the Ganges River to wash herself every day. It seems that the old woman Is contented with her life even though she can see the glamorous living of her Brahmas neighbor.When the Brahmas was asked if he wanted to give up his wealth and knowledge for him to be happy, he effused as he doesn't want to be in the same condition as the old woman. He thought and believes that being means one has to be imbecile. After hours of reflection and re-reading of the selection, I realized that the story doesn't go around the story of the Brahmas but of both him and the old lady. I think that the title of the story Is inappropriate because It Is not all about the Brahmas himself. He Is not even a â€Å"good† Brahmas for me.I don't see any reason why the author should call him a good Brahmas. Yes, he is honest with himself and does not deceive anyone. She decides to be Ignorant and be content with what she has.This box of ignorance made the old woman happy as she is not aware of what is happening in the society. This made her contented. Because of her ignorance, the woman is in Nirvana. On the other hand, the old witty Philosopher, have so much wealth but so much problem in his life. He is not contented with his life. Because of his wide knowledge, he also has more questions which could only give him problems In his life. If I were to choose whether to be the Brahmas or the old woman, I prefer to be the old woman in the case that she has peace of mind in her heart. But will not criticize or hate the Brahmas.I truly believe that we can be a pappy creature and at the same time reason out. Why would I be bothered and be problematic by the things that I cannot change and the things that I might never know? Also, If there's a means on changing my state by working hard, then I won't give up. I enjoy talking about many things with my friends. There are a lot of things that opinions and beliefs.
